The Central Asia Invest Programme of the European Commission

Latest Update: 09.04.13
Central Asia Invest (started in 2008) is an initiative within the European Commission’s overall strategy to support EU-Asian co-operation.

The Programme is designed to establish and consolidate bonds between European and Central Asian Intermediary Business Organizations in order to facilitate the transition towards a market economy. By developing Business Organizations, Central Asia Invest also aims at encouraging the establishment of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
sequa is the world’s leading organisation in capacity building of intermediary business organisations with a track-record of more than 300 successful projects in this sector implemented for BMZ, GTZ, European Commission or the World Bank Group.
In Central Asia, sequa has been strengthening Business Organisations since 1996 and disposes of valuable regional experience and contacts. sequa actively participates in the Calls for Proposals for the Central Asia Invest Programme. Intermediary Business Organisations who are interested in getting more in-depths information on sequa´s activities in the Central Asia Invest Programme are invited to contact us.
Projects should provide for institutional capacity building activities targeting European and Central Asian Intermediary Business Organisations, making them better equipped to offer services to SMEs, to create bridges between governments and the private sector, and to contribute to the creation of new employment opportunities. Activities include:
Master classes for managers and employees, practical demonstrations and study visits focusing on reinforcing the network between counterparts
Capacity building seminars, workshops and training for staff of intermediary organisations and Asian companies, which aim to facilitate the access to the European market
Organising collaborative workshops with European and Asian standards and quality management organisations
Mutual visits, staff exchange and exchange of matchmaking opportunities between European and Asian intermediaries
The programme is open to European and Central Asian non-profit intermediary organisations and institutions representing SMEs, including chambers of commerce and industry, chambers of sector-specific trade, industrial and professional associations, regulatory bodies and agencies promoting trade, investment and commercial activities as well as sector-based agencies concerned with working with SMEs. Government agencies are considered eligible as long as they are not the main applicant.
Applications should be from partnerships with a minimum of two partners, at least one from the EU and one from Central Asia. Partners from Mongolia, the Russian Federation, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan can participate as associates (i.e. not receive direct funding).
