Cooperation with Malian handicrafts associations will continue

| In Mali the crafts sector is of particular importance for economic development and poverty reduction due to its potential regarding processing of raw materials, diversification and employment creation. However, craftspeople are confronted with a number of problems that cause a delay in development. Moreover, an unfavourable economic structure, the low increase in value of local products as well as the dependence on the world market of the key exports, cotton and gold, cause an unfavourable business environment. The partnership project of the Cologne Chamber of Skilled Crafts and the Fédération Nationale des Artisans du Mali (FNAM) as well as the the Assemblée Permanente des Chambres de Métiers du Mali (APCMM) will continue to be funded in its second phase by BMZ. It focuses on the promotion of the private sector in Mali, especially of micro, small and medium enterprises. FNAM and APCMM will be strengthened as umbrella organizations of the Malian crafts sector in order to improve their position towards government and enterprises and to support their representation of interest vis-à -vis government, especially on the subject of the reform of the vocational training system. The range of services offered to member enterprises will be developed according to their needs. |
