Ecuador: Access to the EU Market for Products from Amazonian Biodiversity

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the Ecuadorian Amazon region are the focus of the GIZ-funded project, which primarily supports the positioning of innovative and sustainably produced natural products - such as macambo, morete, guayusa, vanilla and cinnamon - on the European market.

Despite the strong potential of ingredients mentioned above, limited market knowledge, low visibility and weak international networks continue to hinder entry into the EU market. This is where the project ‘EU Market Access for Amazonian Biodiversity-Based Ingredients’ comes in: it strengthens the export capacities of participating companies through targeted training, the development of professional company and product profiles, and the preparation of a market study analysing trends, certification requirements and market-entry barriers. Building on these insights, tailored marketing strategies are developed, including digital campaigns, storytelling formats, influencer collaborations and consumer-oriented promotional activities.

Another key component is the targeted linkage with European buyers. This includes matchmaking formats, virtual presentations and participation in international trade fairs such as Anuga, Biofach or In-Cosmetics.

Project duration: 01 October 2025 – 30 September 2027.
