Egypt: Digital Solutions in Agricultural Systems

To increase the use of digital solutions for sustainable and resilient agricultural and food systems in Egypt, the Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) and Global Project Partners (GPP) are working together on a new PartnerAfrica project.

The IHK Magdeburg and GPP are cooperating with the member-based organizations Chamber of Food Industries (CFI), Horticultural Export Improvement Association (HEIA) and Nahdet El Mahrousa (NM). These partners are to be sustainably strengthened and digitally positioned over the course of the project period. For example, there will be new digital consulting services for member companies.

Measures to promote employment and improve working conditions in the agricultural and food industries are also to be a focus. One of the activities planned for this purpose is the establishment of a date palm academy with HEIA, through which the high labor demand for new seasonal workers for date palm cultivation is to be met.

As these workers are predominantly male, the project also plans special measures to promote women. For example, by working with CFI to train companies to obtain a gender equity label.

The project will not only support established companies, but also start-ups. NM aims to create new jobs and foster innovation through idea generation/hackathons, incubation and growth acceleration programs.

Central is not only the creation but also the improvement of working conditions. To this end, the project will also work with agricultural technology start-ups that help farmers obtain better prices for their crops, create new access to information or personnel services for seasonal workers.

The partnership project is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) within the framework of the Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition"  via sequa gGmbH.
