Export promotion is crucial for Ghana, as it drives economic growth, diversifies the economy, and reduces dependence on a limited number of raw materials. At the same time, SMEs face significant challenges that affect their export potential: many SMEs lack the necessary skills, resources, and networks to effectively enter international markets.

The GIZ-funded project "Promoting Ghanaian Export Companies" within the program "Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness (AgriBiz)" aims to address these challenges through targeted support in skills development and by creating connections between Ghanaian SMEs and potential European partners. In total, 16 companies, divided into two groups, received support. The project highlights included visits to the trade fairs “Fruit Logistica” in Berlin and “Biofach” in Nuremberg

One group of nine matchmaking-ready SMEs received tailored coaching sessions, including in areas such as sales and communication. During the trade fairs, a total of 183 meetings were arranged for this group—148 of them with European clients. For the remaining SMEs, a study tour was organized, which included visits to importers, among other activities.

The SMEs come from various regions across Ghana and offer a wide range of products such as mangoes, pineapples, and sweet potatoes.
