In the partnership in Kenya, the IHK Giessen-Friedberg worked from December 2014 to November 2020 with the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main on the German side and selected vocational training institutions on the Kenyan side. The project lasted for two, three-year phases and aimed to increase the focus of the vocational training institutions on the needs of the companies in terms of qualification. The video at the following link offers impressions of the graduation ceremony of the second dual training cohort in the field of industrial electronics at the Kenya Technical Trainers College in Nairobi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK2wncQjb88&ab_channel=IHKGie%C3%9Fen-Friedberg.
In Nigeria, various institutions of the established economy, thus chambers and associations, were partners of the IHK Giessen-Friedberg. The project, which was implemented in two phases from December 2012 to December 2018, aimed to introduce dual training courses in selected professions adapted to Nigerian conditions in cooperation with chambers and associations on a pilot basis, to disseminate information about them and to contribute to improved framework conditions. Both VET partnerships were supported by funds from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and contributed to increasing the qualification level and thus the employability of youth and young adults.
The IHK Giessen-Friedberg is now building on these successes and launched a Business Membership Organisation Partnership in Nigeria at the beginning of 2023, which is also funded by the BMZ. In this project, the umbrella organization Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) and selected member chambers will be sustainably strengthened as service providers and stakeholders for Nigerian SMEs in the long term. This is intended to contribute to the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises and to diversified economic development in Nigeria.
