German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited the FOCI Skills Academy (FSA) in the Nigerian capital Abuja on December 19, 2022. She found out with great interest about the dual form of training in construction trades that had been introduced there with project support of sequa. sequa has been enhancing the Nigerian construction association FOCI (Federation of Construction Industry) as part of the GIZ project Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) since 2020 in setting up a training center with the aim of providing young people with skills required on the labor market. The FSA meanwhile offers three one-year training courses: Masonry Construction Worker, Construction Carpenter as well as Plumbing & Pipefitting.
The minister visited Nigeria for two days in order to return part of the so-called Benin bronzes, which were stolen from the royal palace in Benin, a state of today's Nigeria, during the colonial period and came into the possession of German museums.
