Rwanda: Skilled Craft Funds Plus: Over 1,000 trees planted

In October 2025, sequa's Skilled Crafts Fund Plus which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) organised a tree planting event in the small town of Rwamagana in eastern Rwanda. Together with more than 2,000 volunteers, the partners of the skilled crafts network in the Rwandan wood sector sent a powerful message for environmental protection and sustainable urban development.

Under the motto “Together for a greener future,” the Skilled Crafts Network in the Rwandan Wood Sector organised a large-scale tree planting event in collaboration with proWOOD+, SITECOMA, local companies, and the district administration of Rwamagana. More than 1,000 Grevillea and Cypress seedlings were planted around the craft village of Gakiriro and along the main roads with the support of over 2,000 enthusiastic participants, mainly young people. In addition, 100 ornamental trees were planted in various parts of the town to enhance its appearance in the long term.

In addition to the tree planting campaign, a joint commitment to a clean and livable environment was also at the center of the campaign: the volunteers cleared rubbish, cleaned ditches, and prepared the planting sites. The campaign was part of the nationwide Umuganda Day and was carried out with great support from the city's population and authorities. The district administration of Rwamagana thanked the organisers and announced its continued support for environmental initiatives.

With the successful implementation of the event, the wood craft network organised by sequa reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection and the sustainable development of the timber sector in Rwanda.
