BBP with the HWK FRM in Sri Lanka
The aim of the project is to improve the supply of qualified skilled workers for the Sri Lankan construction industry in the long term. To this end, the existing vocational training partnership between the Frankfurt-Rhein-Main Chamber of Skilled Crafts (HWK FRM), the Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka (CCI), and selected vocational training institutions (DATS, CGTTI, and SLGTI) will be systematically expanded in a second project phase from 2026 to 2028. Building on the results of the first project phase, the partners' capacities for practice-oriented training and further education will be further strengthened. The main focus will be on establishing a sustainable train-of-trainers system with master trainers, qualifying vocational training staff in demand-oriented and “green” occupational fields in the building trade, and further developing training programs relevant to the labor market. In addition, career counseling for young people will be intensified in order to increase the attractiveness of skilled construction trades. Another key component is the introduction and institutional anchoring of the recognition of prior learning (RPL) as a service provided by the CCI. This gives unskilled or informally employed workers in the building trade access to state-recognized certifications and enables them to improve their employment and income prospects.
