Development of the informal sector in Kenya

An important contribution to the economic development of the country is made by the informal sector ("Jua Kali") with about 6 million enterprises. Although the Kenyan government supports the informal sector by providing land in every county, the sector is underdeveloped and the transition to the formal sector has not yet taken place. Most of the workers have not completed formal education and the visibility of the sector is low. This is where the project between the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main and the Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations comes in. It is planned to support the development of the sector by setting up a central database, new services and further training for the Jua Kalis.
