"Economy of Love" (EoL) is the name of the holistic certification programme that includes the economic, cultural and social dimensions of agriculture in addition to the application of regenerative agricultural practices. Aspects such as resource efficiency, fair remuneration and working conditions of farm workers are taken into account. The EoL certification is particularly attractive due to an integrated system for calculating and verifying CO2 avoidance through the switch to regenerative farming practices. Farmers are compensated for their environmental services such as tree planting and composting, through additional income from the trading of CO2 certificates.
The EoL certification programme was developed and tested by EBDA as part of the "Organic Egypt" project. The new project aims to create the organisational and technical conditions to further disseminate this innovative and social certification programme. This will promote sustainable agriculture in Egypt and the region and contribute to higher quality employment for smallholder farmers and rural workers as well as contribute to natural resource conservation and climate change mitigation.
