On Friday, November 10th, the country representative for Mozambique of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Mark Holzberger, and the GIZ country director in Mozambique, Ekkehard Lang, visited the ongoing Vocational Education and Training Partnership (BBP) between the District Craft Association Kreishandwerkerschaft (KH) Steinfurt Warendorf and the vocational training institute Instituto Industrial e Comercial da Matola (IICM) as well as the Mozambican Renewable Energy Association Associação Moçambicana de Energias Renováveis (AMER) in Mozambique.

During a tour of the partner training institute IICM, both learned about the progress of the cooperation between KH and the Mosambican partners. The local representatives of KH, Jan Rogge and Vasco Cuna, led the guests through the workshops together with Nilza Almeida, Deputy Director of the IICM. KH organises practical training courses for vocational training teachers in the welding trade, which have become well-known nationwide. Mr. Holzberger and Mr. Lang were very impressed by the cooperation between the KH and the IICM. The current BBP is the continuation of the very successful first phase of the partnership between KH Steinfurt Warendorf, the vocational training institute Instituto Industrial de Maputo (IIM) and the association for renewable energies AMER.

Due to the successful cooperation with the IICM during the first phase of the project, the training institute was able to join in as a direct partner in the current second phase. The aim is to improve and sustainably secure the quality of vocational training at the partner institutions through special knowledge transfer and the training of multipliers in selected occupational fields to provide graduates and participants with better employment opportunities. In addition, the self-organization of the national partners for targeted cooperation with the private sector in the field of vocational training and general awareness of the importance of vocational training will be strengthened. High-quality, practice-oriented vocational training also contributes to improving the competitiveness of companies.
