Togo: Promoting Competitiveness of the Private Sector

The Togolese Economic Strategy 2025 aims at inclusive and sustainable economic growth to strengthen social and economic participation and social cohesion. This is intended to create jobs and modernise the country and its structures. The Togolese government is giving priority to improving the investment climate and increasing productivity and value creation.

The private sector is already represented by a multi-layered system of chambers and associations in different sectors, which has great potential to facilitate dialogue between businesses and the government.

As part of the GIZ programme "Promoting the competitiveness of the private sector (ProComp)", sequa supports Togolese chambers and associations in strengthening their participation in public-private dialogue and their representation of interests, expanding the range of services for businesses and achieving financial sustainability. This helps to improve the business environment and create a functioning chamber and association landscape in Togo that can form the basis for economic growth and job creation. The measure aims to strengthen chambers and associations in Togo in the performance of their core tasks. This will be achieved through the following core activities:

1) Initiation and support of a change process, including capacity and skills building of chambers and associations with regard to representing the interests of their members vis-à-vis state institutions and effective participation in public-private dialogue formats.

2) Capacity and competence building of chambers and associations with regard to the professionalisation of their internal structures and processes as well as the possible development and implementation of service offers for their member companies.
