In the study, the chambers examined how the Western Balkans can become more competitive through decarbonisation and become part of CO₂-reduced EU supply chains. A CBAM guide for companies in the Western Balkans was published at the same time as the study to prepare companies from the Western Balkans for the increasing requirements of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
At the Business Forum of the Berlin Process ‘10 Years Berlin Process - The Western Balkans as an Economic Area on the Way to the EU’ on 24 September at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) in Berlin, CIF President and President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce Lulzim Rafuna included the results in the recommendations to the officials. The WB6 Ministers of Economy and Trade, Minister of Economy Robert Habeck and many other representatives from business and politics were present. At the conference ‘The Parliamentary Dimension of the Berlin Process’, which was organised by the Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis Skopje - IDSCS and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, officials from the WB6 countries and the German Bundestag as well as partner organisations and think tanks met to discuss the Berlin Process. CIF Secretary General Tatjana Shterjova Dushkovska picked up on the findings of the study in her opening speech at the conference to raise awareness of these issues.
