sequaForum 2017 A01: Energy turnaround

Editorial

The biggest problems of mankind are energy and drinking water scarcity, climate change, and environmental degradation. Providing regenerative energy sources is one of the most important keys against environmental pollution and climate change and for the solution of the energy problem in developing countries. The gross national income (GNI) per capita in the richest countries with one sixth of the world's population is 80 times that of the poorest countries with the same share of the world's population. Experience shows that large imbalances can trigger migration. If we want to reduce migration, we have to deal with the flight causes.

This inequality of GNI has much to do with access to energy. 645 million Africans - more than half the population of this continent - have no access to electricity. This approach, however, is a crucial prerequisite to enable adequate paths to education, health, drinking water and food. At the same time, it is more important than ever to generate electricity "cleanly" in order to preserve mankind’s livelihood (air, water, soil).

So there are many good reasons to contribute to an energy turnaround in the poorer countries. It is a clear strategy of sequa and its partners to support this objective.
