sequaForum 2020 A01: BMOs are engaged

We wanted to find out why our partners are implementing projects, where the weak points for their commitment lie and how we ourselves and the BMZ as donor can improve the offered programmes.

Currently, 68 partnership projects are being implemented: 27 KVP, 32 BBP and nine PartnerAfrica projects. Ten high-ranking and competent managers from BMOs all of whom carry out projects in the above programmes themselves, analysed their project work. They held intensive and constructive discussions with the head of the BMZ department responsible for the programmes about difficulties in project implementation and how these could be reduced - even difficult topics. The following issues were raised: excessive own contributions, the overloading of the projects with too many objectives, resistance from member companies, security and visa problems, the increase in cost reimbursements and the digitisation of documents. Key demands were the wish for greater political recognition of the successes of BMOS in development cooperation and increased programme budgets.

All in all, it became clear that all those involved are very satisfied with what has been achieved. BMOs achieve significant effects in their projects and even more German organisations would like to get involved.
