The Corona pandemic has led to considerable restrictions in almost all vocational training projects. The vocational training partnership between Kreishandwerkerschaft (KH) Steinfurt Warendorf and uMfolozi TVET College has defied the Corona situation and made a virtue out of necessity.
For the first time, a purely technical training course was conducted completely virtually. In the first step, a German bricklayer trainer created an instructional video for training participants in Richards Bay. Subsequently, a training session was held for the local trainers of the uMfolozi College via video conference. The training included the construction of a masonry arch, which was carried out by the trainers themselves under the instruction of a German master mason. The result: an almost perfect masonry arch and satisfied training participants. This shows that virtual training can also be successfully implemented in practical craft areas.
