The Corona pandemic has led to considerable restrictions in almost all vocational training projects. The vocational training partnership between Kreishandwerkerschaft Steinfurt-Warendorf and uMfolozi TVET College has defied the Corona situation and made a virtue out of necessity. For the first time, a purely technical training course was conducted completely virtually. In the first step, a German bricklayer trainer created an instructional video for training participants in Richards Bay. Subsequently, a training session was held for the local trainers of the uMfolozi College via video conference. The training included the construction of a masonry arch, which was carried out by the trainers themselves under the instruction of a German master mason. The result: an almost perfect masonry arch and satisfied training participants. This shows that virtual training can also be successfully implemented in practical craft areas.
