In September 2021, the organic farming association Naturland, together with the Georgian organic farming association and the international association Sustain Caucasus, launched a small-scale project in Georgia.
The aim of the measure is to introduce Georgian farmers' associations to the new EU Directive 2018/848 for European organic production. This stipulates how agricultural products and foodstuffs labelled as organic must be produced and manufactured. The directive obliges not only European farmers to follow the rules of this directive, but also those farms that export their products to the EU.
The project activities include the expansion of the association's service portfolio including support measures for standards, certification of organic products in agriculture and forestry, and the development of concepts for ecologically and socially compatible value chains. The small-scale measure is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
