The sequa project for the introduction of formal training in the construction sector in Guatemala will be continued by Intecap and the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction (CGC) in partnership with the German Chamber of Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main in a second phase.

The agreement was renewed on 18 February 2022 during a press conference in Guatemala City, which was broadcast live on television, with the participation of representatives of the partners involved.

The aim of the training programme is to improve the capacity, skills and quality of work in the building trades through formal training. Certified construction craftsmen not only have better prospects of finding a job, but also more attractive pay.

So far, six training modules of 80 hours each are offered (3 more are planned in the 2nd phase), including the Intecap certification recognised by the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction, covering the following topics:

o Masonry
o Finishing / plastering
o Concrete formwork
o Reinforced concrete construction
o Scaffolding
o Plumbing / plumbing work

During the next three years, at least 1,000 masons are to be certified under the programme.
