From 3 to 18 August, a delegation from Guatemala was received in Frankfurt by the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Frankfurt-Rhein-Main (HwK-FRM).

The vocational training partnership project between the HwK-FRM and INTECAP (vocational training institution in Guatemala), which has been running since 2018, aims to improve employment opportunities for skilled workers in the construction sector and to provide construction companies with more qualified skilled workers. There is a high shortage of skilled workers and a low level of training in the construction sector. The result is often poorly executed construction projects, but also non-sufficient safety at work on the construction site. In close cooperation with the Gualtemalan Chamber of Construction, the project promotes the qualitative improvement of further vocational training, in which trainers in the construction sector are being trained for the first time ever.

17 trainers, including 5 women, successfully completed their 10-month training as trainers during the 2-week practical training under the guidance of German master craftsmen in Germany. The practical part of the training could not be realized in Guatemala due to the Corona-related restrictions.

For the travellers, the visit to Germany was a valuable experience and their first ever long-distance trip. Above all, however, they will be the first in Guatemala to provide further training for skilled workers in the construction sector and thus make a decisive contribution to better quality and safety in construction works in the future.
