Since October 2018, the Berufliche Fortbildungszentren der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bfz) gGmbH and five partner associations from the East African Community (here Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) have been cooperating in a partnership project. The project aims at improving the framework conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises in the renewable energy sector.

Therefore, the five associations (Burundi Renewable Energy Association, Kenya Renewable Energy Association, Energy Private Developers, Tanzania Renewable Energy Association and Uganda National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Association) will be strengthened in their structures in order to be able to competently represent the interests of their members and support the national and regional transfer of know-how in the sector.

A key result of the first phase was the establishment of a regional association ("East African Renewable Energy Federation") by the East African partners in 2018. This shows that the regional exchange between the five countries is intended, functions and shall be systematically expanded with the support of the project.
