As part of the GIZ program Project Development Mechanism of the Special Initiative for Decent Work for a Just Transition, sequa is implementing a project to promote exports for African companies in the agribusiness, food, and cosmetic ingredients sectors. The project's aim is to strengthen trade relations between Africa and Europe and support African companies from Egypt, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Morocco, Rwanda, and Senegal in placing their products successfully in European markets. The project offers targeted preparation workshops and individual coaching for companies participating in international trade fairs and virtual matchmaking. Support includes participation in 4–6 European trade fairs, such as Food Ingredients Europe 2024, in-cosmetics 2025, Fruit Logistica 2025, and ISM 2025. Additionally, B2B meetings with potential European buyers are organized. In virtual and physical matchmaking events, companies are connected with European importers to facilitate negotiations for new business opportunities. A targeted follow-up after the matchmaking appointments ensures that the companies are optimally prepared for their export activities.

Well-structured vocational training adapted to companies can enable companies to work more productively and profitably, thus increasing the chances of creating new jobs through growth and strengthening the local economy.

As part of the vocational training partnership between the Cologne Chamber of Skilled Crafts (HWK) and selected chambers in Jordan, these are enabled to organize demand-oriented vocational qualification measures. To this end: 1) Vocational training departments are established in the partner institutions to identify the needs of their member companies for qualification measures; 2) Needs-based vocational qualification measures are developed, revised and implemented by the partner organizations in cooperation with vocational training institutions and companies; 3) A network is established between the project partners and civil society actors to further develop vocational training, promote the participation of women and exchange experiences.

The project supports 25 SMEs in the geographic regions of Amhara, Oromia and Addis Ababa to achieve business continuity, recovery and growth of their businesses. The objective of the measure is to address the needs of the population affected by the crises by creating or securing employment and income prospects through business recovery and continuity support of Ethiopian SMEs from affected regions. There is a lack of modern water and wastewater infrastructure in rural and peri-urban areas of Morocco. Moroccan SMEs need to be equipped both technically and administratively to build and maintain the new water and wastewater infrastructure (e.g. by improving their ability to participate in tenders). The project will support SMEs through the Nucleus approach. Groups of 12-20 SMEs will be formed and led by a Nucleus counsellor. Using a participatory technique, the SMEs independently identify their problems and work out possible solutions. To a certain extent, the project can finance solutions, such as training or necessary machinery.

Increased capacities will create long-term income prospects, emerge job opportunities, reduce poverty in the target countries and support the transition to a climate-friendly economy.
