Uganda: Company Visits and Workshop with UEPB

sequa-experts travelled to Uganda to evaluate the improvements and successes achieved by the selected export companies. In order to ensure that strong export promotion structures are in place in the country after the end of the project, an export guide for dried pineapples was developed in a two-day workshop with the Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB).

As part of the project closing, sequa visited supported companies in Unganda and got a picture of the successes achieved. For example, the company Zahra Food Industries, which took part in an Export Market Orientation Mission to the SIAL trade fair in October 2022, was now able to proudly display its fresh organic certification. The company produces dried fruits and roasted nuts, among other products. However, its biggest export success is in jackfruit fibre, which is needed for the production of meat substitutes. Participating in SIAL has helped the company explore the market and establish contacts with potential new customers.

Kangulumira Horticulture is also active in the dried fruit sector. sequa was able to visit the almost completed new drying plant according to European standards in the immediate vicinity of the pineapple fields.

Besides dried fruit, shea, or shea butter, is an important export commodity for Uganda. With Pelere Group and Blessed Organic Release, two more companies could be visited. Blessed Organic Release participated in the world's leading trade fair Biofach/vivaness in February 2023 and is now in contact with about 30 importers arranged by sequa.

The trip ended with a two-day workshop with the Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB). During the workshop, the motivated team developed a template for a product-specific export guide for dried pineapple. This guide is now being finalised together with sequa and will then be made available to the export companies. With the knowledge gained on the subject of market analysis and preparation of the contents, sequa is in a position to produce further guides.
